Chalk's Landing Surrounding Area

The Uwharrie National Forest offers 50,189 acres of recreational activities. There are over 133 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails in this region, and the forest is also popular with hunters and fishermen. It's named for the Uwharrie Mountains, some of the oldest in North America.

The Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 8,443 acres and is situated on the banks of the Pee Dee river. The diverse habitat support a broad range of wildlife species, including over 180 birds, 49 amphibians and reptiles, 28 mammals, and 20 fish species. The public is invited to enjoy hiking, bird watching, fishing, and hunting in season.

Pinehurst, North Carolina is famous for its golf course, which is the site of more championships than any other golf course in the country. In 2008, Pinehurst will host the U.S. Men's Amateur Championship. In addition to golf, Pinehurst boasts spas, tennis, and dining opportunities.

Other nearby attractions include Rockingham Dragway, a quarter-mile championship drag-racing facility sanctioned by the International Hot Rod Association, and Mint Museum of Art, which opened to the public in 1936 as North Carolina's first art museum.
